The Boyfriend Goal

by Lauren Blakely

Self-Published

Book 1 in the Love and Hockey Series

My brother has always made one rule clear to his hockey teammates–keep their hands off his little sister.

But the night I arrive in town to start a new job, Wesley is just the sexy, charming stranger who rescues me when I’m locked out of a friend’s place.

Then he rescues me from an O drought.

A week later when my apartment falls through he saves me a third time, without even realizing it. The twist? He didn’t know when he offered a guest room to his team captain’s little sister that it was me – the woman who sang his praises the other night. Loudly.

And I had no clue my new roomie was him. Clearly fate hates me.

But I don’t need a complication and Wesley doesn’t want to rock the team boat, so we agree to a friends-only rule.

It’s hard to stay friendly though when he gives me rides to work and pitches in at my library’s fundraiser. Harder still when he gives me those heated looks that make my pulse pound.

I don’t know how long I can stick to our rules, especially the night Wes comes to my door and tells me exactly how he’d like to break them.

Every last one.

I can't remember what led me to this book.

It was on my TBR, but not sure how it got there. I think maybe there was a quote from tiktok or instagram that had me immediately adding it to my list.

I guess it doesn't really matter.

All of that, to say that Lauren Blakely is a new author to me.

I really enjoyed this book. There was just something about it that kept me from giving it 5 stars, but I honestly can't pick out that reason.

Which is killing me.

Perhaps it was because the banter felt a little forced at times? I'm not sure, but whatever it was, it bothered me enough to keep me from giving 5 stars.

Josie and Wesley's chemistry was great. It wasn't explosive, like other books I've read, but I felt it as I was reading their story. As I mentioned above, the dialogue between them sometimes felt forced, but otherwise, I really liked them together.

I loved Lauren's take on the trope of "Brother's Teammate", and that while it was part of their story, it wasn't the story.

I liked it enough that I decided to read the second book. I don't know if I will continue the series, as I don't feel this deep affection for the characters despite their enjoyability, but as for this book, I really liked it.

Josie: “How did it taste?”

Wesley: “I might need to try it again…and again…and again.”

Josie: “Can you bend me over the bed and fuck me hard?”

He breathes out in a rush of air, full of arousal as his eyes flash, like he’s won the jackpot at the slot machines. Then, in a rasp of a voice, he says,

Wesley: “Josie, I can and I fucking will.”

He seals his dirty promise with a hot, deep kiss that has me seeing stars.

He’s like the hero in an adventure tale—he can lasso the prize and leap across raging waters. Can he deliver orgasms in a single bound? Turn the page and find out, gentle reader.

Wesley: “I’m not sorry. But fair warning, in about one minute I’m going to tear off those panties, spread your thighs, and taste what I’ve done to you tonight.”

I come hard and fast. And loud. So loud that when he finally stops, he’s chuckling.

Wesley: “I’m going to need to hear that again. It’s good for my ego,"

Once upon a time, I moved to San Francisco. My first night in town, I met a guy who reminded me of a book.

No one has ever—in my whole life—compared me to a book before. That’s like comparing a truck to a blanket. They don’t go together. With some skepticism, I flip to the next page.

Because he fucked like a page-turner you didn’t want to put down.

And I crack up. A deep belly laugh first thing in the morning. That’s so her. You think she’s going to say something sweet, then it turns out she’s a dirty girl. With a genuine smile, I turn one more page.

Maybe I’ll see you around the city. It’s big, but it’s small too. You never know… XO Josie

It’s the golden rule of being on a team. You don’t bang a teammate’s sister. Well, unless you plan to marry her.

“Yes, Josie. You should text him back because it’s nice. Not because you still want to ride his dick.”

Josie: “You’re not making this easier,”

“I know, and I have no regrets,”

Josie: “Did the notes I left bother you?”

I shake my head.

Wesley: “Nah, your handwriting is like Comic Sans MS. It’s awesome.”

She laughs, bright and happy.

Josie: “I always knew that was the best font.”

Wesley: “It is. That’s just facts.”

Then, I tell her something else that I’ve held back.

Wesley: “I like your notes.”

Josie: “You do?”

She sounds delighted.

Wesley: “They’re a window into you,”

Wesley: “Get down on your knees. Take my dick out. And suck me off like you do when I picture your mouth every goddamn night.”

Wesley: How’s Raccoon?

Josie: He spends a lot of time licking his balls.

She’s so blunt sometimes it kills me.

Wesley: I’ll probably regret asking, but where in the library does he lick his balls?

Josie: On a big yellow chair in the children’s section. He has zero shame. And, since he’s neutered, zero balls.

Wesley: But so much hope.

Wesley: “Because all I’ve wanted since you moved in is to get you in my bed, Josie.” He slides his hand into my hair, gathers some strands and tugs me closer, like my hair’s a leash. It’s hotter than I would have thought.

Wesley: “And to fuck you like I don’t respect you.”
