I would like to thank #MiraLynKelly and her team for sending me an #ARC of #DirtyTalker in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Dirty Talker is Mira Lyn Kelly's fourth addition to the Slayer's Hockey Series, and centers around Slayer's team member Wade, who is desperate for one of his teammates to fix him up with a fake girlfriend; sister, a friend, anyone, for a ten day trip to his hometown for his brother's wedding. Enter Harlow, a friend of a friend who decides after a crushing job loss and a few drinks, to throw her perfectionist ways out the window and volunteer for the spot. After all, Wade seem's nice, and because he is not her type, it's safe. Right?
I've had this little gem on my tbr list since it was announced, and I really enjoy this series, so when I had an ARC sent to me for Dirty Talker, I was thrilled! I knew going into this book that we were getting the "fake relationship" trope, and it didn't disappoint! Was it the most unique in the trope? No, but it didn't matter to me. The story was interesting and lighthearted. Sweet. The characters were fun to follow along with. I only had two problems: the first being, we didn't get more scenes with the team. The book takes place in the off-season, which makes sense to the story, but I missed the guys! The banter between the guys is always a highlight in the Slayer's books, and Dirty Talker doesn't have nearly enough of it. The second? It could have used a little more dirty talk. I'm not saying there isn't any, but for a book called Dirty Talker, we could have used more.
That being said, I loved Wade and Harlow. Wade has a heart of gold, and his character was incredibly enjoyable. He is an open book, heart on his sleeve kinda guy, and I loved it. I honestly though I wouldn't love Harlow, because I do not tend to relate with type A personalities that put career before everything. I was afraid she would be a bit stuck up, which, wasn't the case! She is also a sweetheart. A bit more reserved, for sure, but nothing a little tenderness and dirty talk can't help. :P
Dirty Talker was the perfect, lighthearted, romantic escape I needed. Mira Lyn Kelly has done a great job making the Slayer Hockey series both fun and heavy on romance (and of course, sex), and I can't wait for the next one!
