Dirty Hookup

by Mira Lyn Kelly

Independently Published

Book #2 in the Slayers Hockey Series

One look and I know… this chick hates me.

I should walk away, find some puck bunny to gleefully sit on my lap and tell me what a big, hot, hockey stud I am--totally true, BTW. But there’s just something about this feisty redhead I can’t let go. She’s got an edge to her that’s sexy as hell and a smart mouth that’s been tying me up since the night I met her.

She tells me to forget it, we’re not happening. But this isn’t the kind of woman a guy ever forgets. Especially when the air starts to sizzle and pop every time we get within ten feet of each other. She’s in my head and under my skin, and all I can think about is the way she looked at me that one time. Like she already knew how it could be between us.

I’m not the kind of guy a girl like her takes home… But maybe I want to be.

Dirty Hookup by Mira Lyn Kelly is the second book in the Slayers Hockey Series, and centers around the players of the fictional NHL team, the Slayers, and their romantic lives. This book in particular focuses on player Quinn, and best friend to Natalie, who is the romantic interest to Quinn's best friend on the team Vaughn (the couple from book 1, Dirty Secret), and little sister to the team captain Greg (who was featured in the Back to You series).

I enjoy the Slayers Hockey series ... and I am including Dirty Player in it, even though officially it is part of Mira Lyn Kelly's back to you series. The romance is the focus of the story, but the times when the team is together, well it always promises a giggle or two. I appreciated the unique plot, and while some parts were a bit predictable, it didn't take me long to finish, because I wanted to get to that happy ending. The first half of the book I found a little slow, but after they started hooking up, the flow of the story was good, and has enough intrigue to make you want to get to the end.

Mira Lyn Kelly writes great characters. George (or Georgie if you prefer) is a strong female protagonist, and represents a woman who is smart, a natural leader, passionate, and kind. Her persistence when it comes to fighting off Quinn's advances is admirable (although, after reading the whole book, I got why she held a grudge for so long). She is no-nonsense, which is refreshing for a female character. Quinn is such a lovable guy, you can't help but have a soft spot for him. He doesn't lie about his past when it comes to sleeping with as many women as he does. When he meets Quinn, the fact that he stops sleeping around, and despite the hate she has for him, continues to focus his energy on her ... its adorable. He is a genuine, kind, romantic at heart kind of guy. Doesn't hurt he athletic and funny too.

In the end, Dirty Hookup is a great little romance, with fun characters, and a little twist at the end that that makes this story all the more interesting. It's kind of a mix between love at first sight, getting back together, enemies to lovers, which makes for an interesting book. Go pick it up :) Actually, go ahead and pick up Dirty Secret (the first book) while your at it, and keep a look out for Dirty Rebound, coming September 8th, 2020.

George: "Geez, O'Brian, didn't anyone ever warn you you'll go blind if you keep stroking your ego like that?"

Quinn: "You could stroke it for me."

We practice drills. And when the kids beg for George to show them her goalie moves, she drops into a split so deep I'm sure I'm going straight to hell, because that move is definitely getting deposited into the spank bank.

Quinn: "Remember what I said about not being able to pass on a challenge back at Belfast?"

George: "Yes."

Quinn: "I was just screwing around that say. Saying any douchey thing I could to get a rise out of you. But so we're clear ... this challenge? George, I'm coming for you. And sooner or later, you're going to like me. Just a little."

George: "No way. Are you blushing?"

Quinn: "Please. I'm not blushing. I'm a strapping, hot-as-fuck pro-hockey player. My kind doesn't blush."

George: "But you are."

Quinn: "Doesn't matter. She's not into me."

Diesel: "No? Wonder what she would be into?"

Quinn: "Hey, D, those all your real teeth?"

Diesel: "They are."

He flashes me a mouth full of pearly whites, showing them off with pride.

Quinn: "You wanna keep 'em?"

Barking out a laugh, he steps back.

Diesel: "Yeah, man, I do. Message received, O'Brian."

Quinn: "Come on, Georgie. Tell me I'm your hero."

George: "Pass."

Quinn: "How exactly does this 'using' business work?"

George: "You do what I tell you."

Quinn: "Mmm. Bossy, huh?"

George: "No. Yes. Okay, not like that. Not that there's anything wrong with it. But - Just take off your pants and let's get on with this."

Margo: "Oh man, what did he do now?"

George: "That bastard made love to me!"

Margo: "Fine, how about you start by telling me how you ended up letting the guy make love to you."

George: "It was an accident."

Margo: "Oh, okay. So he just fell in, then."

George: "We kissed in the kitchen and then I told him I was going to use him for sex. And he said okay, and then we went back to his place."

Margo: "Wait, you told him?"

George: "Yes, I told him! If I'm going to use someone ... it's going to be with consent."

Margo: "So what went wrong?"

George: "Well, then it was his turn."

Margo: "And he wasn't using you."

George: "No. And as if that isn't bad enough, the jerk got me off two more times before he quit."

Margo: "Bastard."

Rux: Whoa, dude, put that thing away."

I blink to find Rux tossing a towel at me and waving in the general direction of my junk. Which is in fact hard.

Rux: "Thought Popov was the only one who got wood after a win. But shit."

Fuck me. This is not going to go away quietly.

Baxter: "What's up?"

Vassar: "O'Brian's sporting wood."

Baxter: "Seriously, man?"

Vassar: "Thought you were going to hit me with it when you turned around."

Quinn: "Man."

Vassar: "It was terrifying."

Baxter: "That thing's a monster."

Quinn: "If we're in here for even five more minutes, I'm going to have you up against that door again, making you come so hard, so many times, that when I'm finally finished you won't be able to walk on your own. And when I carry you out, you can bet your sweet ass it's going to be back to my bed and no where else."

Quinn: "Jesus, Georgie, you're killing me."

George: "Then why keep coming back for more?"

Quinn: "Because every time I try to stop, it feels like I can't fucking breathe. Like something vital is slipping through my fingers and if I let it go, I'll never be okay again."

Rux: "You got it bad, brother."

Quinn: "From the first day I met her."

Quinn: "Baby, we could have a wall of his-and-hers hockey sticks."

George: "Ask me again in like two years if we're still together."

Quinn: "We're going to be together in two years. And you better believe we're going to be more than living together by then too."

George: "So sure?"

Quinn: "Hell yeah, I am."

Quinn: "For the first time in as long as I can remember, I don't feel like something's missing."

Quinn: "You're mine."

George: "I'm yours."

Quinn: "Say it again."

George: "I'm yours. Only yours. I don't want anyone like I want you. I've never ... wanted anyone ... the way I want you."

Quinn: "Did you fuckers seriously eat that entire plate of lemon bars? I made them. From scratch. For your sister."

Ross: "Figured she wouldn't want them."

Gary: "But they were fucking good, bruh"

Quinn: "Jesus. Knock it off. Look, there's something I need to say to you, so listen up. I'm in love with your sister, okay? What happened in Mexico between her and me is something I'll regret for the rest of my life. But she's somehow found it in her heart to give me a second chance, which means I'm going to spend the same time making it up to her. Here's the thing, guys. I need you to know that I'm not pissed or holding a grudge about what you did. You saw some cocky asshole disrespect your sister in a messed-up way. And you did something about it. And as much as getting jumped from behind and having my nose broken sucked, I'm glad she had someone who cared enough about her to do it."

Old video footage:

Quinn: "Georgie, your phone's almost out of juice, so I'm gonna say this quick, so you don't forget it. One look at you and I knew ... I found the girl I'm going to marry."
